Ever since I got promoted to supervisor (end of 2007), I feel there’s something with me that’s just… off? A certain aura, perhaps? Some deep foreboding sense of, I don’t know, godliness? Maybe godness? I don’t know. I really don’t.
To give you an idea of why I am feeling this way, meet some of my staff. I will withhold their names, if you don’t mind, for “privacy.” Agent 1 was in the learning center a few months back and still didn’t know who her supervisor will be. A few days after it was announced that I will be her supervisor, she finds out she is pregnant. Fluke? Read on…
Agent 2′s story goes further back. Before her employment with our company. For more than a year her husband and she have been trying to get pregnant to no avail. She has some sort of medical condition that makes it difficult for her to do so. She was assigned to my team after graduating from the Learning Center and in less than 6 months… she’s pregnant. A delicate pregnancy, to be sure, but still.
You now have a good idea what I’m driving at here, don’t you? Still think it’s a coincidence? Allow me to continue with two more cases.
Agent 3 has been with another supervisor’s team since March this year. She’s married more than a year already at that time and wanted so much to have a baby. In October 26 she was re-assigned to my team. Guess what… in less than one, yes 1, month she’s with me she finds herself pregnant about 2 or 3 weeks at the time of this post.
Now in my team I only have one (1) male agent. The rest are females. The two that are single don’t want to touch me whereas the ones who are married and also want children now want to keep touching me while talking with me. Whether it be coaching or just casual talk. This is especially true of Agent 4 who is planning to visit her husband, who is off somewhere in another country, sometime in 2010 so she can get pregnant, too. You can guess what she’s doing to prepare herself. Yes… touching me when she has to talk to me. <sigh> I’m getting skin allergies already.
While it’s true that other supervisors have pregnant employees, they normally only have 1 as the maximum. So why do I always seem to have more than 2? By the way, this was also the case in 2008 with my old team in my old pod. Why me? Indeed… isn’t that a good question I should be asking myself? Or my boss? Do you think I should start requesting only male agents be added to my team roster?
Or maybe you think I should be flattered? I’m not. I’m scratching my head and just plain perplexed about what, exactly, I have that is causing all these women to, well, become more susceptible to the impregnating spirit. Laugh all you want but I’m beginning to wish Christmas were around the corner and Santa’s for real and willing to provide me agents with testicles instead of wombs and ovaries.
I might also make it simpler and just rename my team to Team Maternity Ward. Hmmm… How about team Eros? Since Eros is a fertility god.
